Sharmila Tagore to Make Special Cameo in Son-in-Law Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe

Amazon MGM Studios and Drongo Films are gearing up to drop the trailer for Kunal Kemmu’s upcoming spy comedy Vibe. Building on the intrigue generated by its initial teaser, the upcoming trailer will offer a deeper look into the chaotic mission of two reluctant spies, portrayed by Kunal Kemmu and Sparsh Shrivastava.
A standout highlight for viewers will be a special cameo appearance by veteran actress Sharmila Tagore. The appearance holds extra significance as Tagore is Kemmu’s mother-in-law, marking their first-ever professional collaboration on a film project. This cameo represents Tagore’s return to Hindi cinema after three years, following her critically acclaimed role in the 2023 family drama Gulmohar. Moreover, with Vibe scheduled for a theatrical release on September 18, it marks her first big-screen Hindi outing in 16 years since Danish Aslam’s 2010 romantic comedy Break Ke Baad.
Historically, Tagore has rarely shared screen space with her immediate family members, having appeared alongside her son Saif Ali Khan in 2007’s Eklavya and daughter Soha Ali Khan in the 2009 film Life Goes On.
For Kunal Kemmu, Vibe represents a major milestone in his multi-hyphenate career. Following his successful directorial debut with Madgaon Express (2024)—where he only made a brief cameo which include Kemmu who takes on the lead role in Vibe while simultaneously serving as its writer and director. The project also marks his debut as a feature film producer alongside Chirag Nihalani under their banner, Drongo Films.
The film’s initial teaser introduced Preity Zinta as a high-ranking government official who abducts two clueless friends and forces them into a high-stakes national security mission. Adding to the comedic tone, Kemmu’s reluctant hero even takes a humorous jab at Zinta’s iconic 1998 action thriller Soldier.
