Preity Zinta Moves Bombay High Court Against AI Deepfakes; Next Hearing on July 6

Bollywood actor Preity Zinta has approached the Bombay High Court seeking the immediate removal of unauthorized AI-generated deepfake videos, morphed images, and digital content featuring her likeness from social media platforms.
The actor has also requested a permanent injunction to block the future creation, publication, and circulation of such misleading material.
High Court Orders Takedown Mechanism
The matter came up for a preliminary hearing before a single bench of Justice Madhav Jamdar. While the court did not pass an immediate interim order on the merits of the case, it directed the defense parties including the relevant tech and online platforms—to cooperate and establish an efficient mechanism to take down the offending digital material. The High Court has slated the next hearing for Monday, July 6, to review the progress.
Key Grievances in Zinta’s Civil Suit
According to her plea, the actress highlighted several violations where her identity was weaponized using advanced technology without her consent. She talked about the following things:
Morphed Visuals: Deepfake videos and photos convincingly altering her face and body.
AI Chatbots: Unlicensed digital interactions mimicking her personality and voice.
Lack of Consent: The petition emphasizes that such technology creates the false impression that she said or did things that never actually occurred.
The Bigger Picture: Zinta’s legal move highlights a rapidly growing concern within the entertainment industry over the misuse of artificial intelligence to exploit the identities, voices, and faces of public figures.
