Delhi High Court Wraps Up Celina Jaitly’s Petition Regarding Brother’s UAE Detention
On March 16, 2026, the Delhi High Court officially wrapped up the legal proceedings initiated by former actor Celina Jaitly regarding her brother’s detention in the United Arab Emirates. Celina had originally filed the petition seeking consular access and legal support for Vikrant Jaitly, who has been held in custody since September 6, 2024. However, the case reached an unexpected conclusion when the court was informed that Vikrant had explicitly chosen to decline his sister’s intervention, preferring to handle his legal affairs through other channels.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav noted that there was no longer a logical reason to keep the petition pending following revelations about Vikrant’s specific preferences. Authorities informed the court that although Vikrant had been granted consular access, he unequivocally stated that he did not wish to communicate with his sister. Instead, he made it clear that he preferred to consult only with his wife regarding any legal decisions. Furthermore, he turned down all offers of legal representation including pro bono assistance from the Khalid Almari law firm and declined Celina’s request to facilitate direct communication between them.
In its final observations, the court acknowledged that while Celina was acting out of genuine sibling concern, the subject of the petition was simply not interested in the assistance she was offering. Consequently, the court disposed of the matter while directing state authorities to remain in contact with Vikrant and extend any assistance available under the law should his stance change. Meanwhile, Vikrant’s wife successfully urged the court to ensure that sensitive details of the case remain private, effectively moving the legal strategy away from the public eye and back into the hands of the immediate family.
