Bollywood is often known for the exorbitant fees to the top stars. So, when 2023 opened, it gave films like Pathaan, which was a huge blockbuster hit. However, it did hampered a few small-time filmmakers who have been often critical to the Khans particularly Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. One of these is the Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri. He seemed to have questioned what is going wrong with Bollywood after two recent releases – Sooryavanshi and Laxmmi Bomb – failed at the box office.

In a series of tweets, he said that stars are charging “unrealistic” fees which leads to inflated budgets and audiences don’t want to watch films made only for awards. He further added that it is time to rethink how movies should be made if they need to succeed commercially. The filmmaker also pointed out that there needs to be more focus on content rather than star power or special effects when making films. He argued that while some big-budget films have worked in the past, most of them fail due to lack of creativity and originality. He concluded by saying that it is important to make films that people can relate to and enjoy watching.

He took a dig to Bollywood which has been paying huge money to the stars. You need to check the tweet he did in the recent past on the microblogging site – Twitter, have a look as under:

He then went on to discuss how he believes streaming services are changing the way we watch movies and TV shows. He said that with streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, etc., viewers now have access to thousands of hours of high quality programming at their fingertips. This has allowed for greater diversification within the entertainment industry as well as increased competition among streaming platforms. The filmmaker ended his talk by encouraging everyone to continue pushing boundaries and creating innovative stories and characters.

To an extent, it is a valid point of the filmmaker as we see no other film did well at the box office except Pathaan. So, paying huge money to the stars seems unrealistic. A perfect example is of Akshay Kumar who has given back-to-back seven films which have performed in a bad shape, while he has demanded a huge fee for all his films. So, getting a huge chunk of money even without seeing the films doing better is the point of Vivek Agnihotri, however, he has targeted the wrong actor on this issue.
