Sleeper Hit Obsession Secures All 4 Shows at Regal Cinema as New Hindi Films Flop

In a stunning box office turn of events, the Hollywood thriller Obsession has cemented its status as a certified sleeper blockbuster, completely overshadowing a wave of fresh domestic releases. Entering its third week on Friday, June 12, 2026, the film collected an impressive ₹3.50 crores—outperforming its second Friday haul of ₹3.30 crores. This unusual upward trajectory means Obsession could pull off the rare cinematic feat of having its third week outperform its second, which had already eclipsed its opening week.
The film’s ₹3.50 crore Friday haul easily crushed the opening day collections of multiple new releases, including Main Vaapas Aaunga, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Governor, Disclosure Day, and Backrooms. Even the horror flick Haunted – Echoes Of The Past, which surprised the trade with a decent ₹2.72 crore opening, fell short of Obsession‘s 15th-day numbers.
This relentless demand has forced exhibitors to rapidly restructure their programming. Mumbai’s iconic single-screen theater, Regal Cinema, originally allotted only two shows to Obsession on Friday, splitting the remaining slots with Main Vaapas Aaunga and Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. However, due to poor footfalls for the new Hindi releases, Regal pivoted by Saturday to hand Obsession all four daily shows.
Furthermore, the film is successfully breaking out of the niche multiplex circuit and invading mass-market single screens and theaters like Mukta A2 Sun City, New Excelsior, and Gold Santacruz. Trade experts note that it is incredibly rare for an un-dubbed English film to penetrate these mass-frequented venues. However, powerhouse word-of-mouth has made it a mainstream must-watch.
Compounding its mass appeal is a highly accessible pricing strategy. Regal Cinema is offering tickets ranging from ₹150 to ₹250, while venues like New Excelsior and Gold Santacruz have capped their prices at a modest ₹200 and ₹150, respectively.
After raking in ₹18.55 crores in Week 1 and skyrocketing to ₹31.28 crores in Week 2, Obsession officially breached the ₹50 crore milestone on Friday. With its 15-day cumulative total currently standing at ₹53.33 crores, trade analysts believe that if this extraordinary momentum holds, the film has a legitimate shot at crossing the elusive ₹100 crore mark in India.
