Netflix Unveils First Look of Freida Pinto and Siddharth Starrer Unaccustomed Earth
Netflix has released the first-look images for its upcoming family drama series, Unaccustomed Earth, starring Freida Pinto and Siddharth. Inspired by Jhumpa Lahiri’s famous short story collection, the show is scheduled to stream globally on December 17, 2026. The series is adapted by showrunner and writer Madhuri Shekar.
Set across Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts, the narrative follows an Indian American community across multiple generations. The story explores deep themes of love, personal sacrifice, cultural identity, and complex family relationships.
Freida Pinto plays the lead role of Parul Chaudhury, a mother whose life changes drastically after a cancer diagnosis. Earlier in life, Parul gave up her first love to honor her father’s wishes. Following her medical diagnosis, she moves her family from India to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Revisitng the city triggers a desire to rethink her past choices and pursue forgotten dreams, creating a ripple effect across her entire community.
Actor Siddharth plays the character of Amit. The series also boasts a large ensemble cast, including Indraneil Sengupta, Parveen Kaur, Sarayu Blue, Justin Bartha, Adi Roy, Jayant Kripalani, Ishita Bansal, Meera Simham, and Palomi Ghosh.

The project brings together an impressive executive production team, including John Wells, author Jhumpa Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow, and Celia Costas. Acclaimed filmmaker Ritesh Batra is set to direct and executive produce the first two episodes of the series.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television, Unaccustomed Earth aims to deliver an emotionally rich portrayal of the immigrant experience. The series will be available exclusively on Netflix starting December 17, 2026.
