CBFC Passes Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Daayra’ with Zero Visual Cuts and One Word Modification
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the upcoming investigative thriller Daayra without demanding any visual edits. Despite receiving an ‘A’ (Adults Only) rating, the film’s hard-hitting scenes and intense sequences have been left entirely intact by the censor board’s Examining Committee.
The only minor modification requested involved a single dialogue spoken by Kareena Kapoor Khan’s character, Aajuni, occurring approximately two hours into the runtime. The committee asked the filmmakers to “suitably modify” the sentence, replacing a specific word with the title ‘Minister.’ Once this single verbal adjustment was completed, the CBFC officially issued the censor certificate.
According to the official certification, Daayra has a final theatrical runtime of 143 minutes and 16 seconds (2 hours, 23 minutes). The decision to avoid cutting any intense visual sequences preserves the creative vision intended by the filmmakers for mature audiences.
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran in leading roles. The project marks Kareena’s tenth film to receive an adult certification throughout her career, following earlier titles such as Ajnabee (2001), Chameli (2003), Omkara (2006), Udta Punjab (2016), and The Buckingham Murders (2024).
With the censor process fully completed and no major content edits imposed, Daayra remains on track for its scheduled nationwide theatrical release on September 18, 2026. Audiences can expect an unfiltered, intense cinematic experience in theaters.
