Ramayana Impact: ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ India Release Likely Pushed to November 20 Due to ‘Ramayana’ IMAX Exclusivity

The much-anticipated Indian theatrical release of Godzilla Minus Zero is expected to face a delay, shifting from its planned global release date of November 6 to November 20. The schedule adjustment stems primarily from the two-week IMAX screen exclusivity secured by Nitesh Tiwari’s epic Ramayana, which debuts nationwide on November 5.

Distribution company PVR INOX Pictures recently released the official poster for Godzilla Minus Zero, confirming its Indian release with the tag “Only in theatres this November.” Notably, the poster included the “Filmed for IMAX” badge, signaling a premium format presentation for domestic audiences.

According to trade sources, the conflict over premium large-format screens has forced distributors to re-evaluate their rollout strategy. “Godzilla Minus Zero is a film made for IMAX, and so is Ramayana,” a trade source explained. “Ramayana is a local film and has a two-week exclusivity window on IMAX screens in India. Hence, if PVR INOX has mentioned IMAX on the poster… one can assume that Godzilla Minus Zero will most likely release in India two weeks later, on November 20… However, they are still discussing whether they can release the film on November 20 or somehow bring the film to cinemas on November 13.”

Also, reports indicate that even after its eventual release, Godzilla Minus Zero may receive limited IMAX showcasing, with most properties retaining the majority of showtimes for Ramayana.

The potential November 20 release window presents further scheduling complexities. The Hollywood title The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping is also scheduled to hit theaters on the same date with an IMAX footprint. Furthermore, if Ramayana maintains strong box-office momentum into its third week, multiplexes will face significant challenges dividing limited IMAX screens among all three major properties.

Despite the release date shift, Indian fans have responded enthusiastically to PVR INOX Pictures’ confirmation, ending weeks of speculation regarding whether the critically acclaimed kaiju feature would receive a formal theatrical release in the country.
