Sony Pictures Releases International ‘Ramayana’ Trailer as Namit Malhotra Explains Game-Changing AI Lip-Sync Tech
Sony Pictures has officially unveiled the English trailer for Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming cinematic epic, Ramayana: Part 1, giving global audiences a glimpse into the grand scale and visual depth of the production. While the stunning visuals created immediate buzz, the trailer’s standout feature is its seamless English dialogue delivery. Rather than relying on traditional dubbing over original video footage, the film utilizes advanced technology from visual effects powerhouse DNEG to digitally synchronize the actors’ mouth movements directly with the English soundtrack.
Producer Namit Malhotra clarified that the process remains rooted in genuine human performance rather than automated generation. The workflow began with professional voice artists and primary cast members recording the dialogue to anchor the emotional authenticity of each scene. Human animators then created a precise foundation for the facial movements, matching vocal inflections to character expressions. Only in the final stage did DNEG deploy a custom-built, AI-powered tool to seamlessly stitch these refined lip movements onto the actors’ original facial performances.
This proprietary system was specifically engineered to meet high-end theatrical standards, avoiding the artificial look often associated with basic mobile translation tools. By aligning facial features, vocal tone, and visual cues, the technology allows international viewers to experience the story without the visual disconnect of standard dubbing or the distraction of subtitles. Adding to the authenticity, lead cast members Ranbir Kapoor (Lord Ram), Yash (Ravana), and Sai Pallavi (Sita) personally provided their own English voiceover performances.
Running nearly four minutes, the trailer outlines the core narrative arc of the upcoming saga. It introduces the menacing rise of Ravana, followed by Lord Ram’s 14-year exile alongside Sita and Lakshman (Ravie Dubey). The preview also features Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha, building up to Sita’s abduction and Ram’s vow to defeat Ravana. Ramayana: Part 1 is set for a major worldwide theatrical release on November 6, 2026, ahead of the Diwali holiday weekend.
