Acclaimed ‘Narcos’ Cinematographer Juan Carlos Gil Signs Ranveer Singh’s ‘Pralay’ After Wrapping Vikrant Massey’s ‘White’

In a major visual upgrade for Indian cinema, two highly anticipated Bollywood projects are set to share the same premium international lens. Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learned that Juan Carlos Gil, the acclaimed Director of Photography (DoP) behind Netflix’s global hit series Narcos—has officially come on board for Ranveer Singh’s mega-budget feature Pralay.

The premium signing comes right after Gil wrapped up filming for Vikrant Massey’s grand political drama, White.

Hollywood-Style Visuals for ‘Pralay’

According to industry sources, the creative team behind Pralay is pulling out all the stops to give the film a distinct, global cinematic aesthetic:

“The team of Pralay is mounting the film on a lavish scale and wants it to have a Hollywood-style visual treatment. Juan Carlos Gil fits the bill perfectly. He is equally excited to come on board, while the team is thrilled to have him shoot this ambitious zombie film.”

About the Film:

Pralay has already generated massive industry buzz, serving as Ranveer Singh’s immediate follow-up project to his recent all-time blockbuster, Dhurandhar. The ambitious zombie thriller is being directed by Jai Mehta and produced under the banner of Birla Studios alongside acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta.

Juan Carlos Gil’s Previous Indian Venture: ‘White’

Before stepping onto the sets of Pralay, Gil utilized his cinematic expertise on Vikrant Massey’s White, a large-scale human and political drama inspired by real-world events surrounding global spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

The narrative explores the fascinating true story of how the Colombian conflict—regarded as the world’s longest internal war—was successfully resolved without a single bullet being fired, heavily driven by ancient Indian philosophies and Gurudev’s direct diplomatic intervention.

Vikrant Massey headlines the project, stepping into the role of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. To maintain authenticity, significant portions of the film were shot across South America featuring an international ensemble cast and crew.

White is backed by hitmaker Siddharth Anand (War, Pathaan, King), producer Mahaveer Jain, and PeaceCraft Pictures. The film marks the directorial feature debut of prominent ad filmmaker Montoo Bassi.

With Juan Carlos Gil pivoting between two vastly different cinematic landscapes—a high-octane zombie survival actioner and an intense, emotional political biopic—Indian moviegoers can expect a uniquely sophisticated visual language on the big screen in the near future.
