Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha to Pair Up on Screen for the First Time in Upcoming 2027 Comedy

Real-life couple Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha are officially set to romance on screen for the very first time. While the two have previously shared screen space in the hit Fukrey franchise, their roles there were adversarial; this upcoming untitled situational comedy marks their first film paired directly opposite each other as leads.

Helmed by actor-director Shashie Vermaa (Bala, Kathal), the film is scheduled to go on floors in the second half of 2026, targeting a theatrical release in April 2027.

A Slice-of-Life Delhi Comedy

Jointly backed by Scenework Productions and Giriraj Productions, the film is a character-driven narrative deeply rooted in everyday life: Set against the vibrant, chaotic backdrop of Delhi, which the director notes acts “almost as a character” itself. A slice-of-life comedy blending humor, genuine emotion, and sharp social commentary. Alongside Ali and Richa, the film stars the acclaimed Kumud Mishra in a pivotal role.

“Ali and I have shared the screen before, but never quite like this,” Richa Chadha shared, noting that the script’s authenticity reminded her of her school days in Delhi’s Jamuna Paar. Ali Fazal added, “The moment I read this script, I knew there was something special about it. It’s exciting to finally explore a completely new dynamic with Richa on screen.”

Expanding the Production Slate

Director Shashie Vermaa promises a story that “celebrates people, relationships, and the chaos that a small moment can bring.” This project follows closely on the heels of Scenework Productions and Giriraj Productions wrapping up their children’s sports film, Murga Trophy, as both banners continue to aggressively expand their multi-genre film slate.

The Illegal Leak & What’s Next

The brief Zee5 premiere had raised hopes that the long-delayed film would finally see the light of day. Although piracy remains illegal and severely impacts producers, public frustration over the film’s removal has fueled the unauthorized distribution online.

Currently, director Honey Trehan, producer Ronnie Screwvala (RSVP Films), and Zee5 are reportedly continuing their efforts to secure a proper, uninterrupted official release. The powerhouse project stars Diljit Dosanjh as Jaswant Singh Kalra, alongside an ensemble cast featuring Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky.
