Ramayana to Open with Ravana’s Epic Clash Against Kubera Near Mount Kailash

While anticipation for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is already at a fever pitch, new details suggest the film will begin with a surprising and visually grand chapter from the epic. Moving away from a traditional start, the film is set to open with the high-stakes confrontation between Ravana and Kubera.
This ambitious production is backed by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, global VFX powerhouse DNEG, and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, ensuring a cinematic scale tailored for a worldwide audience.
A Lesser-Known Battle of Dominance
The opening sequence shifts the spotlight to Ravana’s rise to power long before his encounter with Lord Rama. The narrative explores his relentless ambition:
The Conflict: After seizing the golden city of Lanka from his half-brother, Kubera, Ravana pursues him to Alakapuri, located near the sacred Mount Kailash.
Mythological Depth: This battle serves as a defining display of Ravana’s dominance and sets the stage for his character arc, portraying him as a figure shaped by conquest.
Cinematic Vision and Global Scale
By setting the opening against the divine backdrop of Mount Kailash, the filmmakers aim to blend mythological storytelling with cutting-edge visual spectacle. This choice highlights a commitment to exploring the “underexplored” layers of the Ramayana, offering fresh context for both traditional followers and international viewers.
Release Strategy
Planned as a massive two-part theatrical event, the project is being optimized for an IMAX release globally. The Part 1 is Scheduled for Diwali 2026 while Part 2 is scheduled for Diwali 2027. By starting with the battle for Alakapuri, Ramayana promises to be a layered exploration of power and ego, beginning with one of the most visually promising episodes in the entire epic.
