Comedian-actor Kapil Sharma is once again caught in controversy. After earlier incidents this year involving a gunfire episode outside his Canadian restaurant and allegations of offending the Sikh community, Sharma now faces criticism from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).On Thursday, MNS film wing chief Ameya Khopkar issued a stern warning to Kapil for allowing the city of Mumbai to be called “Bombay” or “Bambai” on his Netflix show The Great Indian Kapil Show. Khopkar made it clear that if this continues, the MNS would initiate a strong agitation against Sharma.
He said, “The name of this city is Mumbai. We have noticed on Kapil Sharma’s show that the city is often referred to as Bombay or Bambai. This is not merely an objection — it’s anger. If other cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata are addressed by their proper names, why insult our city? Mumbai is your karmabhoomi. The people here like you and watch your shows. Don’t insult Mumbai or its people.
”Khopkar added, “If this happened unintentionally, then correct the mistake. Whoever appears on your show — celebrities or anchors — should be instructed to say Mumbai, not Bombay or Bambai.

If this is ignored, the MNS will launch a strong agitation. ”The warning follows a viral clip from the show where actress Huma Qureshi, while talking about her relationship with brother Saqib Saleem, referred to Mumbai as “Bombay.” The episode also featured Shilpa Shetty and Shamita Shetty.
