Imran Khan Challenges FRRO Leave-India Notice in Bombay High Court; Raza Murad Reacts

Actor Imran Khan is set to challenge a directive issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) ordering him to leave India by October 28. According to reports, his legal team, led by Zulfiqar Memon, is filing a petition before the Bombay High Court to contest the order.

The controversy arose after Khan who happens to be an American citizen and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder—participated in an October 10 demonstration organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. The protest called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Following the event, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya lodged a formal complaint alleging that Khan’s involvement violated regulations governing foreign nationals. The complaint was forwarded by Mumbai Police to the FRRO, which issued the departure notice under Section 7 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The agency maintains that holding an OCI card does not grant political participation rights to foreign citizens.

Raza Murad Slams Political Involvement

Addressing the development, veteran actor Raza Murad supported the authorities, stating that foreign nationals should not interfere in domestic politics.

“Whether it is Imran Khan or anyone else, no foreign national has any business interfering in the internal affairs of our country. As a U.S. national, he has no right to participate so actively in the country’s internal affairs or its politics,” Murad told ANI.

Murad emphasized that the law offers proper legal recourse and noted that authorities acted within statutory boundaries:

“He has been given a full 15 days. If he feels he is being treated unfairly or being forced to leave the country, he is welcome to approach the court, and whatever the court decides, we must all accept it. He has two options: either leave the country by October 28, or take his grievance to the court.”

With Khan’s legal challenge moving to the Bombay High Court, the dispute will now test the legal boundaries of OCI rights and foreign political participation in India. Stay tuned to know more about it and you can comment below.
