Prasanna Bisht Starrer Bokshi Release Postponed to December 4 Following CBFC Review
The theatrical release of the folk-horror film Bokshi, starring Prasanna Bisht, has been rescheduled from October 9 to December 4, 2026. The postponement follows a detailed certification review by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) concerning the film’s intense supernatural themes, depictions of witchcraft, and gruesome violence.
Initially referred by the CBFC’s Examining Committee to the Revising Committee for closer scrutiny, the movie has now officially been cleared with an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate and minimal modifications. Production house Lorien Motion Pictures announced the revised premiere date, explaining that the extra time will allow the team to execute a full-scale theatrical campaign following the administrative delay.
In an official statement released on October 8, the makers expressed gratitude to their partners and fans for their patience. The statement highlighted that while pushing back the October premiere was a difficult decision, the brief pause ensures a seamless theatrical rollout across select cinemas in India.
Directed by Bhargav Saikia in his feature directorial debut, Bokshi blends coming-of-age mystery with ancient folk horror. Written by debutant Harsh Vaibhav, the story centers on Anahita, a troubled teenager whose school trek to a remote prehistoric site entangles her with a terrifying local legend. The film stars Prasanna Bisht, Mansi Multani, and Siddharth Shaw, with veteran actor Shernaz Patel lending her voice to the titular entity.
A multilingual project featuring Hindi, English, Nepali, and “Boksirit”—a fictional language created specifically for the film by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen Bokshi has already garnered strong international acclaim. Prior to its upcoming Indian theatrical run, the movie premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2025 and screened at major global genre festivals, including Sitges, Neuchâtel, and SXSW Sydney.
With the trailer already generating positive buzz among horror enthusiasts, Bokshi is set to bring its chilling atmosphere to theaters this December. Stay tuned to know more about it and others only with us and if you have anything to share do comment below and share your thoughts.
