2026 is set to kick off with a mass entertainer for Akshay Kumar, as he prepares to start shooting for Anees Bazmee’s upcoming film. According to an Instagram post by Vickey Lalwani, the shoot will commence in Mumbai on January 19. About two weeks ago, Anees Bazmee confirmed to Mid-Day that he is reuniting with Akshay Kumar after their last collaboration in Thank You (2011). Bazmee shared, “There is mutual love and respect between us. When I told him about this film, he was more than happy.”
Shortly after, reports surfaced that Vidya Balan will star opposite Akshay Kumar. Lalwani’s post further revealed that producer Dil Raju confirmed both Akshay and Vidya have signed on for the project. There were rumors suggesting the film is a remake of Sankranthiki Vasthunam (2025). However, Dil Raju clarified to Lalwani that the film is not a direct remake, but rather inspired by the basic concept of the Venkatesh-starrer. This project marks Akshay and Vidya’s first on-screen collaboration in six years, following their acclaimed work together in Mission Mangal (2019).
Earlier reports from Bollywood Hungama indicated that Anees Bazmee’s film will feature two prominent female characters, with Vidya playing one of the leads. While details about the second female role and the storyline remain under wraps, insiders suggest the film will blend humour, emotion, and strong character arcs—elements both Bazmee and Akshay are known for. The film is produced by Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations.
Recently at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), producer Sirish from the production house revealed plans to make a film with superstar Salman Khan, to be directed by Vamshi Paidipally, known for hits such as Munna (2007), Brindavanam (2010), Yevadu (2014), Oopiri (2016), Maharshi (2019), and Varisu (2023).Sirish also confirmed their production house is set to produce a film starring superstar Pawan Kalyan.
