Jio Studios continues to strengthen its global presence with the official selection of three distinct films—Ghamasaan, Saali Mohabbat, and Bun Tikki—at the prestigious 16th Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF).These films will be featured in the specially curated segment “From India to the World,” which brings together diverse genre films that collectively paint a rich and layered portrait of India. Spanning from deep rural landscapes to complex urban narratives, the films highlight the vast spectrum of Indian culture, resilience, and evolving identity.
Scheduled from September 18–21, 2025, the festival will spotlight Jio Studios’ offerings in prime slots:
- Opening Night (September 19) – Saali Mohabbat: Marking Tisca Chopra’s directorial debut, this powerful drama explores the shifting boundaries between rural and urban India. It tells the story of a woman from a small town fighting back against domestic violence and betrayal. The ensemble cast includes Radhika Apte, Anshumaan Pushkar, Dibyendu Ganguly, and Anurag Kashyap. Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Saali Mohabbat also marks the production debut of acclaimed fashion stylist-turned-producer Manish Malhotra.
- Centrepiece Film (September 20) – Ghamasaan: Directed by renowned filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia, this tense rural thriller delves into India’s heartland, reflecting on the country’s roots and the challenges faced by a young nation reconciling with its history. The film stars Pratik Gandhi, Arshad Warsi, and Ishita Dutta. Producers include Jyoti Deshpande, Piiyush Singh, Ashwini Chaudhary, Abhayanand Singh, and Saurabh Gupta.
- Marquee Film (September 21) – Bun Tikki: Set in urban India, this poignant drama captures the emotional struggles and quiet bravery of a young child and those around him as they confront questions of identity. Featuring legends Shabana Azmi and Zeenat Aman, alongside Abhay Deol, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Rohaan Singh, Bun Tikki is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Dinesh Malhotra, Marijke DeSousa, and Manish Malhotra. It also marks the feature film debut of director Faraz Arif Ansari.
CSAFF is renowned for celebrating the artistry and innovation of South Asian filmmakers, offering a global platform for diverse voices and unique storytelling. This year, Jio Studios’ collaboration with an eclectic group of filmmakers further solidifies its commitment to expanding the reach of South Asian cinema worldwide.
