Malamaal Weekly 2 in the Works; Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav Approached

After the romantic genre saw a revival in 2025 with hits like SaiyaaraEk Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, and Tere Ishk Mein, comedy films are poised to dominate 2026 and 2027. Exciting comedies such as Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona HaiWelcome To The JungleDhamaal 4Bhagam Bhag 2Hera Pheri 3, and Golmaal 5 are lined up. Now, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learned that another beloved title is making a comeback — Malamaal Weekly 2.

As per a source, which revealed, “Talks have begun for Malamaal Weekly 2. The team has come up with a fantastic concept that fits perfectly as a second installment. It won’t be a direct sequel; the characters and setting will differ, but like the original, it will revolve around a group of greedy villagers going to extreme lengths to get their hands on a huge sum of money.”

The source added, “Paresh Rawal has given his nod but hasn’t signed the contract yet. Meanwhile, discussions are underway with Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav.” Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal, and Rajpal Yadav were also part of the original Malamaal Weekly, released 20 years ago in March 2006. The film’s plot centered on the only educated man in a village who finds out that a villager has won a Rs. 1 crore lottery prize but the winner has died. Chaos ensues as the villagers hatch wild schemes to hide the death from the lottery inspector while keeping the greedy village head clueless.

Now, talking about the film, it is directed by Priyadarshan, the original also starred Reema Sen, Shakti Kapoor, Sudha Chandran, the late Asrani, Rasika Joshi, and Innocent.
