Border 2 to Dominate Theatres: Single Screens Locked for Two Weeks; Multiplexes to Run 14–18 Shows Daily for One Week

The highly anticipated Border 2 is set to release this Friday, January 23, with ticket bookings opening unusually early on Sunday—a welcome surprise amid recent trends where theatres delay ticket sales due to competition from holdover hits like Dhurandhar. With the Ranveer Singh starrer nearing the end of its run and no major releases clashing on January 23, theatres have fully embraced Border 2’s bookings.
According to trade sources, distributors have requested exclusive showings for Border 2 on all single-screen theatres for two full weeks. For multiplexes, this directive applies for one week only.Specifically, theatres with two screens are instructed to allocate all shows to Border 2. Three-screen cinemas must run at least 12 shows daily. Multiplexes with 4, 5, and 6 screens are required to schedule 14, 16, and 18 shows per day respectively. For venues with seven or more screens, the minimum is 20 shows daily.
A trade insider explained, “Border 2 runs for 3 hours and 19 minutes, meaning most cinemas will have a four-hour gap between shows. With four shows daily, even three-screen cinemas will dedicate all their screenings to Border 2, leaving no room for other films if they follow the guideline.”
Advance bookings have been exceptionally strong. By Monday 6:00 PM, Border 2 had already sold 13,500 tickets across India’s top chains—PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. Industry experts predict an opening day collection of around Rs. 40 crores. With the release coinciding with a four-day weekend that includes Republic Day on Monday, first-week box office numbers are expected to soar.
