Dhurandhar was not only the biggest hit of 2025 but also the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, largely due to Akshaye Khanna’s critically acclaimed performance as Rehman Dakait. However, since Rehman’s character dies in the first film’s climax, it was understood that Akshaye Khanna would not reprise the role in the sequel. Recently, fans of Akshaye and Rehman were thrilled when reports surfaced claiming that Akshaye would shoot for a week for Dhurandhar 2 to expand his character’s backstory. Yet, Bollywood Hungama has confirmed that these reports are untrue.
A source close to the production told Bollywood Hungama, “Akshaye Khanna has not shot any scenes for Dhurandhar 2 post the first film’s release, nor is there any plan for him to do so. Director Aditya Dhar filmed both parts together and has no intention of adding more screen time for Rehman just because the character became popular. One key reason Dhurandhar succeeded was Aditya’s honest filmmaking. He wants to maintain that integrity in the sequel and won’t exploit the character’s fanbase.”
The source added, “Akshaye does appear in a few scenes in Dhurandhar 2, but those were filmed earlier during the original shoot. So, fans will get to see Rehman again, but no new shoot is planned.”Addressing rumors about reshoots, the source clarified, “There are no reshoots happening. Only some patchwork filming was done, which is normal.”
Alongside Akshaye Khanna, Dhurandhar featured a star-studded cast including Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi.
