The long-awaited glimpse of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut web-series, Heeramandi, has finally been unveiled! Coming from the renowned filmmaker known for his opulent and expansive sets, the series centered around the courtesan culture of the 1940s boasts elaborate gharana sets and stunning costumes. The teaser offers a glimpse of the lead characters, featuring Sharmin Segal, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh.

The teaser immerses viewers in the world of courtesans, introducing the innocent-looking young courtesan portrayed by Sharmin Sehgal, followed by Manisha Koirala and Aditi Rao Hydari. Richa Chadha’s entry in the promo exudes power, while Sonakshi Sinha’s appearance in black attire alludes to revenge. Although the teaser carefully maintains a sense of mystery, it also conveys the intense portrayal of the characters, particularly Sonakshi. It provides glimpses of how the web series will depict the disruptions and tumult of the 1940s, a pivotal period as India stood on the brink of independence.

According to a statement from Netflix, Heeramandi unfolds amidst a power struggle, where a young heir caught in the crossfire chooses love over succession, challenging the established order. Set in pre-independent India during a burgeoning freedom movement, the series tests the final thread holding the art of tawaifs (courtesans). Regarded as the grandest and most-anticipated series, this marks Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 14-year passion project, presented in collaboration with Netflix for global audiences.

Heeramandi is poised to be an epic saga of love, power, revenge, and freedom. The series promises to be a profound celebration of art, culture, and beauty. Bhansali himself has described it as a tribute to iconic films centered on courtesans, such as Pakeezah and Mughal-E-Azam. Check the teaser as under if you are yet to catch it:
