Dasara Review:

Dasara is a period action-drama film starring Nani in the lead role. The film, directed by Srikant Odela, touches multiple subjects including friendship, casteism, politics, heartbreak, and alcoholism to name a few. To add on to it, it also has a bit of mythology and other elements.  The story revolves around two childhood friend – Dharani (Nani) & Suri (Dheekshith Shetty). They are into all sorts of petty crimes like coal stealing and other things and have been living life king size till their families grow enmity and thus bring all the issues one can wish for. The two love the same girl which brings the difference between the two.

The movie begins with some sort of bang, with both the characters particularly Nani is impressive before the audience. The first half of the movie is filled with some action sequences and witty one-liners, which keep the audience engaged.  However, in the second half the plot becomes complex with several characters and subplots being introduced touching multiple issues.

Now, talking about the performances, Nani’s performance in the movie. He delivers a power-packed performance, effortlessly switching between comedy and action. His comic timing is impeccable, and he brings a certain charm to his role that makes the audience root for him throughout the movie. That’s why he is called the natural star for the performance he has given over the silver screen.  However, the leading lady Keerthy Suresh’s Vennela fails to prove her worth amid the two men in the movie. Although she had a good start though, her performance fades down, making love to one and giving a heartbreak to another. On the other hand, Dheekshith Shetty manages to stand tall amid the two with his impressive work.

The supporting cast, which includes actors like Shine Tom Chacko, Samuthirakani, Sai Kumar, and Poorna, also do their best with the limited screen time they have. However, their characters seemed over and even undercooked, which made them fail to gain a lasting impact on the audience.

Srikant failed to embark upon impressive filmmaking skills, while the scripts remain at the doldrum failing to carry the right spirit of the story for the right time.  The music and cinematography of the movie seemed below average while the songs were not that catchy as the background score did fail to impress. The cinematography failed to capture the grandeur of the festival of Ramnaumi and the beauty of the locales seemed missing in the film’s sets.

Dasara – The Last word

Dasara is a movie that had the potential to be a crowd-pleaser but it falls short due to its weak script and convoluted plot. While the first half of the movie is entertaining, the second half drags on and fails to deliver a satisfying conclusion. However, Nani’s performance and the technical aspects of the movie might help to call the audience. Yet in many ways the film fails to impress and falls flat on a disappointing note.
