Plot

The film is a biopic and is based on the life of controversial Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto. It portrays his stay in Bombay in the early forties till the country got the independence and was the known scriptwriter, while he has his own difference with the progressive writer due the explicit content in nature, but most of them remained his good friends. Suddenly, he started realising about his religion despite being a free thinker after the creation of Pakistan that led him migrate. His stories with the same nature continues, while his wife was his ardent supporter and she made him walk strong with her support.

Review

The script of the film happens to be gutsy and she tried to cover all the aspects of Manto’s life. This has led a few things to remain half-touched while others remained okay. The trosy had all the issues but one can find a less amount of buyers. This film takes nicely back to the fifties presenting the way it looked that time, right from the local trains to the cardboard tickets to many things.  The makers have presented things in a right way in which the makers were able to portray. Now talking about the performances, Nawazuddin Siddiqui as usual as simply nailed it by playing the controversial issue. In fact, he has claimed that much of his ideas and thinking match to the late author, which has helped him to play the best on screen the character of Manto.

Rasika Dugal playing Safia his wife, which happens to be a gem  in the store waiting to be explored. She has performed without much efforts and going flawless and powerful performance from the lady. The others like Tahir Raj Bhasin as Shyam Chadda also has does a decent job.  Talking about the other things, music seems apt, and has helped in portraying the best of the story. The same goes with the other elements like script, screenplay, editing and other elements that helped in many ways.

Manto The Last Word

Manto can be called as a whiskey that helps in puring your soul, which may offer you a dry mouth later thus making you an addict. If you want to watch some brilliant performances, and gutsy direction and writing in Old Bombay and other phase then it becomes an unavoidable one.
