Raees crosses Rs 50 crore mark in 3 days

Shah Rukh Khan has proved yet again, his penchant for making a solid opening at the box office with his latest release Raees. With close to Rs 47 crore in two days, by 27 January, Raees has crosses Rs 50 crore at the box office, reports Indian Express. As per early reports, which have taken into consideration the screen count and occupancy levels, the Day 1 box office collection has been estimated at Rs 21 crore.

Early trade estimates have revealed that on Day 2, the film is expected to make anything around 28 crores, which is a neat couple of crores above what the film made on Day 1, reports Indian Express. India Today reports the Day 2 figures to be over Rs 26 crore. This has been touted to the fact that Thursday was Republic Day, a national holiday. If these figures are confirmed it will make Raees the highest Republic Day grosser, a feat earlier held by Salman Khan’s Jai Ho (2914) which stands at Rs 25 crore on Republic Day.

Raees, directed by Rahul Dholakia and produced by Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies, was expected to take in anything between Rs 17-19 crores in box office collections when it opened on Wednesday, 25 January 2017. The predictions seemed in line with SRK’s previous releases — Fan (which brought in Rs 19 crores on opening day) and Dilwale. Trade observer Ramesh Bala tweeted out the early figures: “Looking at the early day one numbers, Raees seems to have outdone Kaabil by a huge margin at the box office: Raees — Rs 21 crore; Kaabil — Rs 7.5 crore.

While official figures are still awaited, it is Day 2 figures for both Raees and Kaabil that will be keenly watched. It remains to be seen how much the public holiday will benefit the business of both films. Meanwhile, India Today Raees is said to have broken the ‘January jinx’ — the belief that Bollywood films released in the first month of the year do not do good business.
