Mighty Film to Catch this Independence Day Season
Finally the D Day has come when the two big banner films are hitting the theatres. This certainly include the film called Mohenjo Daro, which is an Indian epic adventure romance movie directed and written by Ashutosh Gowariker, one of the known makers in the industry. The film is produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur in association with Ashutosh Gowariker under the banners of UTV Motion Pictures and Ashutosh Gowariker Productions Pvt Ltd (AGPL). It features the stylish actor Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde in the pivotal roles; the latter makes her debut in B Town with this big banner film. The director took three long years to research and develops this script working hard closely with several archeologists in order to imbibe the authenticity in this fictional period movie. The film was shot in Mumbai and Bhul along with Thane and Jabalpur (Beda Ghat). The music comes from the living legend A R Rahman and lyrics are jotted down by Javed Akhtar. The film was screened at Locarno International Film Festival at Switzerland and even is supposed to screen at Piazza Grande Awards as well.
The film is set amidst the 2016 BC era often referred as the Indus Valley Civilization revolving around the life of a farmer called Sarman played by Hrithik Roshan. He travels down to the largest city Mohenjo Daro moving upriver wherein he saves the life of a gorgeous woman called Channi played Pooja Hegde who is The Chosen One for the services to Sindhu Ma (the river goddess) that happens to be the symbol of Mother Sindhu’s grace & blessing. However, Sarman is soon seen falling out afoul over the politician Maham played by Kabir Bedi and his Moonja played by Arunoday Singh who is keen to seize power and start their own regime in the great city of Mohenjo Daro by becoming the king. On the other side, Sarman and Chaani are in love and the former has to defeat Maham to save the city and win his lady love. So, what happens next, how this young farmer saves the city and did he really win his lady love is an interesting thing to catch.
As the film trailer released, it soon fetched up millions of view giving along certain critical views as well. The film is a fictional love story with using the same name given by the archeologists and others who discovered the town underneath. Thus it is obvious to see a couple of factual errors in the film. Also, imagining a life 2000 years before is a daunting task which Ashutosh has actually dared doing so. Many or its sequences has the modern day things including the cloth based garments and stuff which were witnessed only few centuries before. However, besides these factual errors in the film, the movie is yet a hard researched effort of Gowariker. He has tried to rope in a decent love story giving away a decent kind of story as well, which is more than enough to make the film a hit. The script flows the way it should go on, though the massive infrastructure that existed in this era is hard to imagine. So, you have interesting sets to catch up unlike seen in Bajirao Mastani.
The film has witnessed decent amount of performances so let’s talk about Hrithik Roshan. He is an accomplished actor, come what may – action, dance or any other thing, he fits into the bills the best showcasing wonderful performance. It’s been a while to see him over the silver screen since his last release Bang Bang. We can very well understand the sheer hard work of the actor seen in this film. He has tried hard to step into the shoes of the character giving nothing but the best backed by cool action sequences and romantic sequences that scores good points for him. On the other side, Pooja Hedge playing the role of Channi seems a bit naïve. Though she tried hard to play things right but was often overshadowed by Hrithik, moreover, her screen space is less than Hrithik and secondly she is doing her debut with this film. Thus she can be excused a bit winning some points for being a novice in B Town films. The others like Kabir Bedi and Arunoday Singh too remained par to the designed characters.
Direction, Music, Editing and other technical elements
Ashutosh Gowariker is an ace director, he leaves any gap in his work and Mohenjo Daro is no exception. Though there are certain factual errors in his film yet he can be excused for the same for the fact that the film has everything in proper place. He has worked hard to design a script, which vouches for his sheer hard work and research about the same. Secondly, his direction went par with a good star cast he has chosen for the film. All in all, his direction skills can be easily vouched the par with this film. Talking about the music, once again set parallel in the industry giving nothing but the best. He is simply awesome with all the songs and music for the film the best. The other elements like editing, screenplay and other technical aspects of the movie simply appear awesome and have together added values to the entertainment elements of the film.
Mohenjo Daro – Last Word
The film Mohenjo Daro is a combination of innovation, sheer hard work & research along with good music and nice performances. Though the film has several factual errors it can be excused for the massive risk the makers have put forth for the film. All in all it’s a worthy movie to catch with massive sets, cool performances and nice locations and many things that can be liked by one and all. Thus the film deserves a good rating.
