This Republic Day has two films to release this year, which certainly include the thriller film Kaabil. The film is directed by Sanjay Gupta, while it is written by Vijay Kumar Mishra, produced by Rakesh Roshan under his own banner of FilmKraft Productions. The film has Hrithik Roshan, Yami Gautam, Ronit Roy, Rohit Roy, Narendra Jha, Suresh Menon, Md. Sahidur Rahaman and Girish Kulkarni in the lead and supporting roles, while Urvashi Rautela had her special appearance in song. The principal photography of the film commenced in Mumbai in March 2016, while the entire shooting is scheduled to be completed by July 2016. How about checking the review of the film and getting its insight as under:
Meet Rohan Bhatnager played Hrithik Roshan is a visually impaired voice over artist who is seen meeting Supriya played by Yami Gautam, a visually impaired musician through a matchmaker. The duo then is seen hitting it off and soon fall in love. Just when they think ‘two negatives are becoming positive’, a disturbing event shakes them up. We see Supriya getting raped by the baddie called Amit Shelar played by Rohit Roy while the MLA Madhavrao Shelar’s Ronit Roy the younger brother and his friend. After filing an FIR and police turning a blind eye to this case, Rohan takes it upon himself to get justice for the heinous crime committed against his wife. Will Rohan be able to blindfold the system and take revenge, will be interesting to catch.
Kaabil though seems to be an ambitious film of Sanjay Gupta, which revolves around the gripping tale of a blind protagonist seeking revenge against those in power. While it seems impressive on paper as you check further the film lacks too much of realism and takes to a fantasy trip. The plot of the film has been hinged through fragile threads and hence being a viewer, you soon end up finding a number of loopholes here. The first half of the film takes off slightly hurried with a meet-cute of the lead pair, while the love story is almost a fast forward version because, Gupta wants to rush towards the thrilling bits. Happiness is short-lived for Rohan and Su and after the disastrous crime, the real deal takes off. The second half is too fictitious to believe in giving away some incredible kind of climax.
Hrithik Roshan’s effort to play visually impaired person can be appreciated, he seems to have exceled in the action scenes particularly wherein one may find difficult even to try by the man with proper vision. Now, that makes the action and performance of the actor unrealistic behaving like something really unrealistic to believe. Yami Gautam though looks pretty as Supriya she emotes very well in certain scenes and that’s about it and nothing extraordinary! Rohit Roy as the baddie does a decent job. It does come across as though he is trying hard to sound sleazy and succeeds in provoking you to hate him. Ronit Roy is fabulous as Madhavrao Shelar. He picks up a great Maharashtrian accent and his stern dialogue delivery is eerie. Girish Kulkarni should be Bollywood’s favorite cop. As inspector Nalavade, he does a great job. Narendra Jha as the officer on case does a good job too.
Direction, Music and other elements
We know how Sanjay Gupta is obsessed with thrillers and tints, however, this time one can find the director fails to do any green tint to his film but try to make it a commercial thriller. One of the major setbacks for the director’s film is its locations. While some are digitized versions of real locations, the fake nature of it are a turn off. One of the scenes that have been shot in a mall had a chance to be extremely impactful but is executed in an immature manner. Also, the whole Tango dance sequence between Hrithik and Yami seems extremely farfetched. The action sequences are the best directed portions in the film and hence the second half is a much better watch. The climax is well executed and makes a good enough ending to the film. The music is not so great and Saara Zamaana is the only number that entertains.
Kaabil Last Word
Well, the film Kaabil is certainly nowhere near to perfection but strictly speaking certainly a must for die-hard Hrithik fans who want to wash off Mohenjo Daro memories. Well, the film lacks the realism that is expected from the film but at the end it seems to have failed to impress. More often we can call this film not less than a movie of fantasy and of super natural human being.
