As a film tackling a serious issue of eco contamination, Irada got much attention. But with the release of other films The Ghazi Attack and Running Shaadi, Irada was over shadowed and got a lukewarm response at the box office. Evidently the presence of seasoned actors such as Naseeruddin Shah, Divya Dutta and Arshad Warsi could not bring the film the publicity it deserved. Low on promotional tactics, Irada suffered on account on les visibility on the social media platforms. The film ended putting up a poor opening show in various parts of India except Punjab where the film is based.
Irada reminded many of Anurag Kashyap’s Udta Punjab which was marred by controversies regarding the maligning nature towards the politicians of Punjab. Irada bordered on the same premises but was not surrounded by controversies as the other was. The film had a theatre occupancy rate of about 75% in Haryana and Punjab while it was around 45% in other major cities of the country. The total collection figure of the first day was 11.24 crore. The film had lesser number of screens in the multiplexes considering which the collection can be termed as a lukewarm one.
Irada had a star cast consisting of Arshad Warsi, Naseeruddin Shah, Divya Dutta, Sharad Kelkar, Sagarika Ghatge and Nikhil Pandey. The movie is directed by Aparna Singh and produced by Falguni Patel and Prince Soni. The word of mouth about the film is positive and so it is expected to put up a better show on the weekends.
